ACTION D.1: Dissemination of the project

SUB-ACTION D.1/A: In the Gran Sasso National Park the action will focus on:

  • farmers. A periodic action of sensitization for farmers will be carried out by biologists/naturalists who will make at least six targeted meetings together with trade associations, in order to illustrate the activity of the Anti-poison Dog Unit (NCA);
  • the general public opinion. No less than two press releases per year will be published, together with short videos for the local medias about the presence and the activity of the Anti-poison Dog Unit. The press releases will be also spread through the web portal of the Italian parks (www.parks.it) and the Federparchi’s mailing list (Parchi News), which brings together the management bodies of Italian protected areas;
  • schools. Elementary schools and secondary schools of the area will be informed by a mailing about the activity of the Anti-poison Dog Unit and, on teacher’s request, students will be able to visit the trained dogs and see some field missions.

To obtain these results, 4 meetings with the associations of hunters, tour operators and other groups and environmental organizations from the area are planned to disseminate actions and aims of the LIFE project. It is also set to contact directly the managers of the main tourist facilities of the area, to disseminate actions and goals of the project. In addition, educational interventions will take place in schools in order to illustrate the project and, in particular, the activities of the Anti-poison Dog Unit. The interventions will be carried out by biologists or naturalists and they will involve no less than 20 classes.

SUB-ACTION D.1/B: Dissemination of the project in Andalusia

Andalusia will disseminate at least three press releases about the project and conduct a disclosure press conference.

SUB-ACTION D.1/C: Dissemination of the project in Aragon

Aragon will disseminate at least three press releases about the project and conduct a disclosure press conference.

In addition, Aragon will organize some meetings (at least 4) with regional representatives of the interested parties (farmers, hunters, etc.), in order to illustrate the project.

Sensitization’s actions in Italy and Spain will be supported by the dissemination of information material (Action D.3).

ACTION D.2: Dissemination of the strategy against the use of poison

SUB-ACTION D.2/A: Dissemination of the strategy against the use of poison in the Gran Sasso National Park and in Italy

The action provides a dissemination campaign at regional and national levels of the Strategy against the use of poison (Action A.3) and of the Anti-poison Dog Unit activity (Action C.2). The campaign will target park authorities and other actors (particularly those who administrate the areas which are indicated in action A.3 as "poison risk"), environmental associations, regional associations of interested parties (farmers and hunters). It will also regard those subjects that are involved in similar projects at a European level.

The action includes:

  • an information campaign by sending the promotional material produced with action D.3;
  •  the organization of a workshop in the Park which will aim to disseminate the Strategy against the use of poison and illustrate the activity of the NCA, also allowing people to attend field missions.

Both the mailing and the workshop will promote, to the institutions/actors responsible for wildlife protection, the possibility to reproduce control and prevention measures represented by NCA in the areas of their expertise. This will happen by sending to the Gran Sasso National Park supervision/veterinary staff, in order to learn the techniques of dog training and control of the area (Action C.2).

The involvement of managing bodies of Italian protected areas, the publicizing of the Strategy against the use of poison (Action A.3) and the completion of the workshop will also be performed through the web portal of the Italian parks (www.parks.it) and the mailing list of Federparchi (Parchi News), which brings together the managing bodies of the Italian protected areas.

The sensitization campaign may use the documentary DVD, the poison manual and the technical manual for vets produced in Action D.3.

The sensitization campaign will begin as soon as the NCA is operational and the Strategy against the use of poison is drawn up. The workshop will take place in 2012.

SUB-ACTION D.2/B: Dissemination of the strategy against the use of poison in Aragon
